Bringing Hope and Healing: Phoenix Children's Hospital's Mission to Care for Children

Updated: Jun 30

In the heart of Arizona, there stands a beacon of hope and healing for children and families in need. Phoenix Children's, one of the nation's largest pediatric health systems, has been dedicated to providing world-class care for over 35 years. With its comprehensive range of services, state-of-the-art facilities, and a team of compassionate healthcare professionals, Phoenix Children's transforms lives and shapes a brighter future for children in Arizona and beyond.

A Leading Pediatric Health System

Phoenix Children's is more than just a hospital. It is a network of care comprising multiple campuses, specialty and urgent care centers, outpatient clinics, and community service-related facilities. With its vast network of over 850 pediatric primary care providers and specialists across more than 75 sub-specialties, Phoenix Children's ensures that children receive the specialized care they need close to home.

Impacting Arizona's Children

Within five years, one in four Arizona children will have received care from a Phoenix Children's provider. This staggering statistic speaks to the widespread impact and influence of Phoenix Children's in the community. Every day, the hospital tirelessly serves the medical needs of children, with a daily operating cost of $2,660,000. It is a lifeline for families facing challenging circumstances, providing crucial support and world-class medical care.

Commitment to Trauma Care

Phoenix Children's is the only Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center in Arizona and one of only 59 Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Centers in the entire country. This designation showcases their expertise in handling complex and critical cases, ensuring that children needing trauma care receive the highest specialized treatment. Arizona is fortunate to have one of the 27 states equipped with a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center, and Phoenix Children's plays a pivotal role in safeguarding the well-being of young patients.

Charitable Care and Outreach

In 2020 alone, Phoenix Children's provided $47,612,000 in charity and uncompensated care, underscoring their commitment to serving every child in need, regardless of their financial circumstances. With over 5,500 dedicated employees, including over 500 PCMG providers, Phoenix Children's is a beacon of hope for families facing medical challenges. Additionally, their incredible efficiency is showcased by the fact that it only costs $0.18 to raise a dollar, ensuring that donations have a direct and substantial impact on the lives of children.

As 365 Days of Grace prepares for the much-anticipated Christmas Gala, we are thrilled and honored to have the opportunity to raise funds for Phoenix Children's, notably its Homeless Youth Outreach Program.

Phoenix Children's Homeless Youth Outreach (HYO) Program

Within Phoenix Children's' diverse range of programs, the Homeless Youth Outreach (HYO) Program stands out for its unwavering commitment to providing holistic healthcare and hope to children and youth experiencing homelessness. For the past 23 years, this program has been a guiding light, offering free, comprehensive medical and behavioral health services to vulnerable children and their families. Through mobile medical units and fixed-site clinics in shelters, schools, and residential facilities, Phoenix Children's HYO Program delivers care to nearly 2,000 unique children annually.

Addressing the Challenges of Foster Care:

One of the critical aspects of the HYO Program is its focus on children with foster care experience. These children face an increased risk of homelessness after exiting the foster care system, leading to a cycle of challenges and adverse health outcomes. Phoenix Children's recognizes the urgent need for early intervention and consistent access to medical care for these children. Collaborating with the Department of Child Safety (DCS), they have established a new clinic at the Welcome Center, where children and youth are placed upon separation from caregivers. This innovative clinic offers swift access to medical and behavioral health services, comprehensive examinations, and trauma-informed care.
